What is the “Cabaret Confessions of an Eco Diva” Show?

‘So is it a Cabaret, a Play or what? It’s all of the above. As a Play, CCOAED is more universal than the Cabaret, it is available to be performed/franchised by other performers/companies around the world who want to spread an environmental message in a

musical, provocative and “play”ful way. Performed in Two Acts, Act 1 is the story,Act 2 is a game show that the audience participates in and can win prizes. Infotainment that’s a win win win situation for all!

As a Cabaret, Nomi performs a slightly different version of the story that is her own personal journey generally
performed in smaller more intimate venues. It can be performed with a live band or tracks and runs about 75 minutes.

Finally, Nomi also does guest spots (10-30 minutes) at Eco-friendly events that adds a short, sweet and sassy highlight to any eco-event. Check out her performances at Earth Day in Maple Ridge and the Green Party No Tanker event in Sidney.

Documentary Review – SWEET MISERY: A POISONED WORLD

This is an exellcent documentary. Anyone who drinks diet pop, chews sugar free gum or eats anything that is sweetened with aspartame NEEDS to watch this video.

Gives a great explanation of how aspartame passed through the FDA and congress despite the health risks proven in scientific studies. Also, follows several individuals that have severe side effects thought to be brought on by aspartame.

Flaxseed Cracker Recipe

Flax seed crackers are my very favorite healthy snack to make. The basic ingredients are flaxseed whole, ground or both. Some vegetables, nuts, seeds and herbs for flavour. You do need a dehydrator and food processor to make them but its worth it. No flour or wheat, No eggs, No sugar….super healthy and super YUM!!!

Flax Crackers

  •  1/2 cup sun dried tomatoes ( Soak in hot water, enough to cover)
  • 1 cup walnuts (Soak in water for an hour, discard water)
  • 1 juice of one lemon
  • 1 small zucchini
  • 2 teaspoons of cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 Tablespoons of tamari ( I used the wheat-free kind)
  • 1/2 cup of whole flax seed (Soaked in 3/4 cups of water)
  • 1/2 cup of ground flax seed
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Red or yellow bell pepper
  • 1 tomato

Chop onion, garlic, bell pepper and tomato into chunks. Place into food processor and process until mix ed throughly. Add salt, cumin, tamari, lemon juice, walnuts and dry flax in food processor and mix.

Drain sun dried tomatoes place in food processor set water aside. Also add whole flax seed and mix. Add water from sun dried tomatoes if necessary. Your batter should be smooth but not too runny.

Spread batter onto your teflex sheet with spoon and score with knife.

Dehydrate for about 10 to 12 hours on 115. Remove from teflex sheet and place on mesh sheet and dehydrate for another 8 to 10 hours.

Dehydrator Party!!!

Hey Everyone!

Myself (Lesley-Ann) and the wonderful and amazing Eco-Diva herself (Nomi) spent the last couple of days on Salt Spring Island creating some super yummy (and healthy) treats in our dehydrators. On our list of goodies included flax crackers, curry and mexi flavoured almonds, sprouted sunflower and pumpkin seeds marinated in tamari sauce, yam chips and fruit and nut bars.

So what is a dehydrator you ask?

It is an appliance that uses low heat to remove the water content from food, which aids in preserving it.

Okay?….ya that sounds “delicious”…..Why would I do this to my food?

Using a low heat (below 115F) keeps the food in an uncooked “Raw” state. Raw food is said to have more nutritional value than food that has been cooked. More specifically the living enzymes within the food are not destroyed at these lower temperatures.

Besides the fact they taste delicious I personal enjoy making these snacks and treats due to the fact they are gluten, wheat and dairy free. Dried dates, pureed apples or other fruits can be used to substitute refined sugar. If your not sweet enough:) you can also add a little maple syrup or agava nectar .

More to come on healthy eating choices and lots of recipes!!!
